Transferring a domain registration and moving a website are separate operations. A registration transfer does not automatically copy website files or mailboxes.
What to do
- Confirm the domain is eligible for transfer with the current registrar and that you can access the authorized contact email.
- Ask the registrar about locks, verification requirements, transfer authorization and any restrictions applying to the domain.
- Keep existing DNS and hosting active during the transfer unless a coordinated migration requires a change.
- Ask JIJ to confirm support, price and the process for your domain extension before initiating it.
Good to know
Treat the transfer authorization code as private. Transfer eligibility and renewal treatment vary by registrar and registry.
